Edward Albert, oldest son of Edward Albert and Bernice Jewel (Black­man) Humston, was born April 25, 1941 in Manhattan, Kan., going with his parents to Topeka in 1944. He attended Topeka schools and high school in Rossville, graduating in 1959. He also attend­ed Washburn University in Topeka.

In 1961 Ed joined the Kansas Highway Pa­trol as a radio dis­patcher, first at Val­ley Center, then later at Topeka headquar­ters. He was with the Shawnee County Sheriff's Department a year, but returned to the Patrol.

Ed served in the Kansas National Guard, 1962-68, receiving training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and Ft. Benning, Ga. Richard Elroy, son of Loyd Francis and Ruby Florence (Carter) Humston, was born Dec. 26, 1942 near McDaniels, Breckenridge County, Ky., and went with his parents and three sisters to Auburndale, Fla., in 1951. He was graduated from high school there in 1961.

Richard attended Young Harris College, Young Harris, Ga., for a year, and then went to Trevecca College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965, with a major in religion and history.

He attended Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo., and received his Master of Divinity degree in 1969. He graduated cum laude from seminary, and also received the Deans Award for scholastic accomplishment.

Following seminary graduation Richard was ordained elder in 1969 in Lakeland, Fla.

He pastored churches in Jacksonville, FL, and Brooksville, FL, and then moved on “special assignment” to serve an English speaking church in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for two years. He then pastored in Tampa and Orlando before becoming a chaplain in the U.S. Army. He served on active duty from 1979-82 at Ft. Riley, KS, and then returned to pastor in Central Florida (Lakeland, Dundee, St. Cloud, Ft. Meade) and continue his military service in the Florida Army National Guard. He retired as a LTC from the military in 2002 and from full-time pastoring in the United Methodist Church in 2005.

In 2008 he and his wife, Martha Winona Flatt Humston moved to Tennessee to be nearer their two daughters who live in Nashville and Clarksville. Their son Richard Scott and family live in Grand Island, FL. Richard remains active in his retirement supplying churches which are without a pastor and gardening with Winona on the “farm” which they call “Trail’s End Farm” near Lawrenceburg, TN. They enjoy visits with their three children and nine grandchildren.

Shepard McIntosh, son of James Shepard and Doris Evelyn (Logston) Humston, was born Feb. 11, 1931 at Marietta, O. His father died when Shepard was 7. He graduated from Marietta High School in 1949 and en­listed in the United States Air Force in 1950, entering the Air Weather Service.

First an observer, Shep then became a meteorological technician, a weather superintendent and a technical instructor in math and physics for meteorologists. Aside from instructor duty, he was a weather ob­server in Alaska for two years, a forecaster in Korea for a year, in Tokyo for four years, and in Saigon for a year during the Tet offen­sive (1967-68).

Shepard was a high altitude forecaster for SAC in underground at Offutt AFB, Neb., and as forecaster in Texas, Utah, Ohio and New York. He completed the USAF air weather officer course and re­ceived an AB degree in math and physics from the University of Nebraska in 1966, this being the culmination of 16 years of study at the Univer­sities of Ohio, Illinois, Chicago, Maryland (Far East Campus), Sophia U. (Tokyo), and Omaha U

In 1969 Shep was assigned to Aerospace Sciences, visiting weather stations from Turkey to England, teaching new forecast techniques, and evaluating the technical performance of over 30 stations. He was also CM Sgt (Sgt major), representing the nearly 800 enlisted weather men in Europe.

Shep has traveled over much of the world, has many interests, in­cluding numismatics, painting, archeology and photography. In 1970 he took radar meteorology training and also taught that to servicemen.

Charles Oscar Humston Jr., son of Charles Oscar and Susan Mary (Ballard) Humston, was born July 9, 1927 at Shelbyville, Ky. He grad­uated from Lawrenceburg High School and attended the University of Kentucky, Lexington.

Charles owns the Humston Insurance Agency and is a real estate broker at Lawrenceburg, and also has an insurance agency at Danville, Ky. He be­came a Charter Life Underwriter (CLU) in 1969. He has also done auctioneer work relative to real estate.

Charles has taught CPCU classes at the University of Kentucky and at Eastern Kentucky University. He is an elder in the Presbyterian Church, and is a golf enthusiast.

Edward Noble, son of Charles Oscar and Susan Mary (Ballard) Humston, was born April 1, 1929 at Shelbyville, Ky. He graduated from the Law­renceburg High School and assisted his father and brothers in their the­ater, real estate and insurance business.

Ed went to the University of Ken­tucky and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in 1959. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with high distinction in 1960. In 1963 he was graduated from The Louisville School of Medicine (M.D.).

After serving a rotating internship at St. Joseph Infirmary, Louis­ville, in 1964 Ed went to Arkansas City, Kan., and engaged in the gen­eral practice of medicine, including obstetrics and minor surgery. In 1970 he returned to Kentucky and established a practice of medicine and surgery in Lawrenceburg. In October, 1976, he closed his office there and became director of emergency services at St. Joseph Infirm­ary in Louisville, commuting from Lawrenceburg by car or in his own plane.

In 1980 St. Joseph Infirmary was closed and replaced by Audubon Hospital and Dr. Humston assumed the position of director of emergency services at the new facility.

William Ballard, son of Charles Oscar and Susan Mary (Ballard) Humston, was born July 20, 1931 at Shelbyville, Ky. Graduating from high school there in 1949, he went to Centre College, Danville, and gradu­ated in 1953.

He entered the family insurance business in Lawrenceburg, and completed the Aetna Casualty and Surety sales course in 1953.

Bill moved to De Land, Fla., in 1954 and became insurance manager for Ralph H. Beesley, Inc. In 1957 he purchased the firm and since that time has operated it under the name of Humston Real Estate and Insurance Agency.

Billy is an ardent golfer.

Robert Humston, son of Glenn and Lenna (Breakall) Humston, was born at Xenia, OH, July 12, 1919. When he was about 2 years old he went to live with his great aunt, Mrs. Jessie Thomas, in Xenia, with whom he made his home until he was grown. He is a good musician, and graduated from the Xenia schools.

In November, 1938, he enlisted in the United States Aviation Corps at Patterson Field, Ohio. In 1940 he went to Langley Field, Virginia, and in 1941 he was transferred to Orlando, Fla., to personnel office.

He is now a sergeant in the Air Corps.

William Wesley, son of Hartsell William and Allie May (Swadener) Humston, was born in Old Town (near Dayton), Ohio, Died. 15, 1926. He at­tended schools in Xenia Township, Xenia and Dayton, graduating in 1945 from Patterson Co-cp, Dayton.

He was in the Air Corps Enlisted Reserve 1944-45 and reported for apprentice seaman training and was released as steward's mate, 2nd class, for service in the Merchant Marine Sept. 19, 1945.

Wesley was in the U.S. Marine Corps 1946-1948, with the rank of corporal, stationed at Quantico, Va. He received the sharpshooters medal, good conduct medal and honorable service lapel button.

In 1949-50 he attended Acme School of Die Design in Dayton, but in 1950-51 he was in the Marine Corps as a sergeant, stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., at which time he was sent to Vieques Island, Puerto Rico, until Nov. 13, 1951. He was a radio telegraph operator.

After his service, Wesley returned to Dayton and worked at East Dayton Tool & Die Co., as a toolmaker. He died in Dayton Jan. 30, 1963 and burial was at Woodland Cemetery, Xenia, OH.
