William Paul Humston, son of Ezra Sams and Josephine Carrie ( Johnston) Humston, was born eleven miles southwest of Edina, Knox County, Mo., April 19, 1901. His youth was spent at Bosworth, Mo., where he was graduated from the high school in 1920.

Paul entered the employ of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company in 1918, while still in school, and for a number of years was a telegraph operator at Bosworth and Camden Junction. He then turned to radio and electrical engineering, studying for a time in Chicago.

He left the Santa Fe in 1932 and since then has been in the theater sound and film business in Kansas City, having established the Kansas City Sound Service Co. In October, 1942, he entered government service at For Sam Houston, San Antonio, Tex., as a technician and instructor, part of the war effort.

Edward Albert Humston, son of Ezra Sams and Josephine Carrie ( Johnston) Humston, was born in Hurdland, Knox County, Mo., March 14, 1907. His early life was spent at Bosworth, Mo., and he was graduated from the high school there in 1924.

He earned a scholarship to the University of Missouri, receiving a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the university in 1930. He majored also in art and Spanish. During his college years he worked for the Bosworth Sentinel, and as a linotype operator for the Manhattan, Kan., Morning Chronicle.

In 1931 he returned to Manhattan, where he has been employed as a typesetter for the Mercury and Chronicle, and at present is president of the Manhattan Typographical Union.

He is co-author of this genealogy.

The family moved from Beverly to Marietta, O., in 1925 and he later worked there for nine years as a meat cutter. He then moved to a small farm near Beverly, and in 1938 he moved to Beverly, but in less than a month he became ill and died Oct. 3, 1938.

Charles Oscar Humston, son of Noble Greiffin and Lora Ethel (Triplett) Humston, was born at Campbellsburg, Henry County, Ky., Aug. 29, 1907. After finishing grammar school at Campbellsburg, he attended the Kentucky Military Institute and graduated from Shelbyville high school.

Married at 18, he returned to the farm at Campbellsburg for two years. He became a tobacco buyer for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and during the next three years was stationed at Shelbyville, Waycross, Ga., and Smithfield, N. C.

Later he moved to Lawrenceburg, Anderson County, Ky., to become owner and operator of the Lyric Theater. He established the Anderson Realty Company, which became the leading realty company in the county; he founded, with a partner, the tobacco brokerage firm of Humston and Blakemore, later becoming sole owner.

He is now state representative from Anderson County.

He became a salesman for an insurance company and is active in civic affairs of his city, being a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a past president of the Toastmasters Club, a member of the board of directors of the Boys’ Club Association, and a member of the Indiana Boys Town Board.

Delbert Orville, son of Orville Roy and Bertha (Carpenter) Humston, was born near Valley, Neb., Feb. 21, 1912. In 1934-35 he was in the Civilian Conservation Corp.

Delbert was employed by the Nebraska Department of Roads as res area manager, and was also employed by Cass County.  He retired in 1977 from the state position and in 1979 from his county duties.  He and Arline are active in administrative positions in the Methodist Church, and in Ashland and Saunders County senior citizen roups.  The home in 1982 was 1918 Dawes St., Ashland, Neb. 68003.

After his father’s death in 1914, he and his brother went to live at the Odd Fellows Home in Springfield. The he learned the baker’s trade and, being a good musician, played in the home band and orchestra. He was graduated from the Springfield high school in 1923.

In 1924 Fred left Springfield and worked four years as a railroad car checker, going to Dayton, O., in 1927. he is now employed as an assembler in a General Motors plant at that place. He resides at 367 Antietam St., Dayton, O.
